Thank you for considering a gift to support the "Creating a Safer, Greener, Active Campus" project at St. Catherine’s British School. Your generous contribution will play a pivotal role in creating a more sustainable and enriching environment for our students and the entire school community. It will make a lasting difference to our mission to build a greener and brighter future for our School.
To unify the school's grounds safely, provide additional space for outdoor activities and learning, and have our children thrive in a greener environment.
A transformative project with the overarching goal of establishing a more engaging and sustainable environment for St Catherine’s students. It facilitates significant improvements and enhances the quality which its students deserve, and parents expect. It consists of three different projects, targeting a September 2024 completion date, which interact with each other linking the Upper and Lower School and creating a more continuous, green, and safe campus.
The threefold project “Building Bridges to Tomorrow” is estimated to cost €1million, including fees and VAT. In addition, €200k is being invested by the school for leasing the land between the two schools and for the bridge and green area studies. While a substantial portion of the required amount has been successfully secured, we still need to attain the full target to start constructing. Your generous and enthusiastic support is what will make it happen and every donation, regardless of its size, takes us another step closer to reaching our goal.
We welcome gifts of all sizes with immense gratitude. As a token of our appreciation, all donors will be recognised in the Governor’s Annual Report (2023-24). Additionally, your name will be prominently displayed on our Virtual Donor Wall on the School's website.
This project aims to bring our school community together. The areas developed will be used by all our students. We offer a unique opportunity to highlight this community spirit. We invite you to provide a personalised message or “quote” to serve as a daily source of inspiration to our students, as they use these new spaces.
For those who generously contribute €2,000 to €4,999, an inspirational quote about learning of your choosing will be displayed as part of the Bridge's decoration.
For those who generously contribute €5,000 to €9,999, your personalised message or name will be displayed in the beautiful ‘Carpo’ gardens of the Green Spaces project in the Lower School or in the Outdoors Project of the Upper School.
The Xenokles Circle
The Xenokles circle celebrates the commitment of our dedicated supporters. They will be welcomed into a circle within our school community, where their invaluable support for this project will be acknowledged through a special programme offering unique benefits.
Donors will strengthen their connection with the school by receiving personalised updates, recognition and invitations to events. This initiative serves as a powerful way to champion St. Catherine's mission of fostering community integration and constructing a more environmentally sustainable future. Your involvement in The Xenokles Circle helps build a stronger and more interconnected community that extends far beyond financial contributions. Thank you for being an integral part of our shared vision for a better future.
Xenokles, son of Xeinis of Sphettos, was one of the wealthiest men in Athens during the second half of the 4th century BCE. His active public life spanned forty years, particularly during the early years of the restored democracy after 307 BCE. We acknowledge him through the name of our giving circle on account of an especially appropriate community act. Sometime between 321 and 317 BCE, and at his own expense, he constructed a stone bridge over the Kifisos so that initiates in the Eleusinian mysteries of Demeter and Persephone as well as locals could safely cross the river. A poignant symbol for our own effort to build connections between our communities and honour our green ambitions to help sustain them.
“In order that the sacred objects shall be conveyed safely and finely as well as the gathering of Greeks coming to Eleusis and to the sanctuary for the festival, and that those living on the outskirts of the town and the farmers shall be relieved, [Xenokles of Sphettos] is building a stone bridge, spending his own money on it” (I. Eleusis 94.15-23: original & translation).
