The St. Catherine’s British School Theatre was filled with energy, laughter and enthusiastic applause on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March, as the St. Catherine’s Musical Theatre Club presented the beloved musical Hello, Dolly! to delighted audiences.

Across two memorable evenings, our talented students brought the vibrant world of turn-of-the-century New York to life, capturing the humour, warmth and charm of this timeless musical comedy. The story of the spirited matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi, with her bold personality and knack for stirring up romance and adventure, unfolded on stage with colour, confidence and remarkable stage presence.

Under the direction of Ms Margarita Souvleri, the production continued the growing tradition of musical theatre at St. Catherine’s. Through months of rehearsals and preparation, students immersed themselves in the collaborative art of musical theatre — combining singing, acting, movement and storytelling to create a lively and engaging performance.

Reflecting on the journey of the Musical Theatre Club, Ms Souvleri shared:

“The Musical Theatre Club was founded in 2019 at St. Catherine’s Upper School with a small group of students from my singing classes as part of the after-school music program.

This year’s production of Hello, Dolly! represents another exciting step in that journey. The musical’s vibrant energy, humour and timeless songs offer students the opportunity to explore character, storytelling and ensemble performance at a high level. As the club continues to grow, each production welcomes more students who are eager to discover the unique world of musical theatre.”

Behind the scenes, a dedicated creative and technical team played a vital role in bringing the production to life.

  • Ms Margarita Souvleri: Musical Theatre Director
  • Ms Wendy Gibbins: Dance Teacher & Choreographer added vitality and precision through her choreography
  • Mr Paul Koutselos: lighting engineer, who enhanced the atmosphere of the performances
  • Mr Christos Achladiotis: sound engineer, whose expertise ensured every moment on stage could be fully experienced by the audience.
  • Ms Athina Katsamba: Set Decorations transformed the stage into the lively world of Hello, Dolly!
  • Mr Stammis Chris & Pepperspray Films: Advertising Production

Special thanks to the St. Catherine's British School Design Tech Department (Mr Konstantinos Kalogeropoulos),the Art Department (Ms Dalavagka and Mr Moroz), Music Department (Ms Kandilaki) and the Communications & Operations Teams.

Productions of this scale are the result of months of preparation, creativity and teamwork, and the performances on these two evenings were a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved.

With vibrant musical numbers, joyful storytelling and an unmistakable spirit on stage, Hello, Dolly! was a true celebration of student talent and the performing arts at St. Catherine’s. The success of the production and the wonderful response from the audience made these two nights of theatre a memorable highlight for our school community.
