How would you describe yourself in 10 words or less?
“One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” — Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1971)
If you had to choose, what is the single moment that defined you most?
One of my most defining moments in my life so far would have to be my 19th birthday in New York City as a freshly heartbroken acting student in his first week of Acting School. I felt like I had no ground beneath my feet and even considered moving back to Greece in a desperate hope to salvage my relationship with my high school sweetheart, but I decided to stick to my guns and dedicate myself completely to the craft. Staying in New York and immersing myself in the craft and the city is what has defined me the most.
What is your fondest memory of St. Catherine’s?
What a question! When I think of St. Cats, two special memories come to mind.
One would be any moment spent in the Theatre black box with Mrs W. Raikopoulos and Mrs E. Voutsadakis .
Then there was a philanthropic school trip we had done to Lavrio to spend a day with refugee children which was truly heartwarming. (There are definitely other school trips that also come to mind, but I would definitely say that one was the most valuable in hindsight.)
What was the most important thing you learned at St. Catherine’s?
I hope I don't sound cliche in saying this, but I think what I learned at St. Cats was to believe in yourself - no matter what.
People can say and think what they want but if they haven't put the effort into getting to know you - their words or opinions don't mean anything.
I'll also say that respect permeates through time like a ripple in a still lake. There are people that I wouldn't say I was close with while in school that I always respected and admired, who I now can say are dear friends of mine. That makes me happy.
How did St. Catherine’s help shape your path?
St. Cats helped shape my path in the sense that I had obstacles in my way while attending school, be it social or academic or systemic, that I had to learn how to overcome and bypass using reason, logic, common sense, and kindness. Furthermore, our academic schedule gives you a good baseline for how to efficiently go through your workload in university if you realize it soon enough! (But I would have never admitted that while at school! LOL.)
What did you do after graduating from St. Catherine’s?
Directly after graduating I had a few months off to decompress from the whole experience of school! Then I decided to apply to acting schools in the U.S. for the beginning of 2020 and shortly after I was accepted into the oldest acting institution of the United States, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
What was your first job after finishing school, and what do you currently do?
My first job after university was performing in a two-person play based on the life of a Puerto Rican playwright in his adolescence navigating through his sexuality and seeking consultation from his grandmother. I performed as the young playwright for an outdoor community garden theatre festival in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned since graduating?
Always be open to Listening with a capital L.
There is something to learn from everything and everyone if you truly listen.
Compassion is key and anything is attainable if you learn how to kill with Kindness.
What are your top 3–5 career highlights, and why do they stand out?
So far…
1. Performing Off Broadway as JESUS CHRIST on a skateboard for a play that was about a jaded actress who joins a cult - speaks for itself.
2. Last year I spent a whole season ( seven months) performing every night under the Acropolis on a rooftop theatre performance called "Medea and Other Friends I Made in Athens," which kept receiving glowing reviews. I felt a very profound metaphysical connection with performing ancient Greek theatre under the Acropolis - like I was making Dionysus proud!
3. I would have to include two things as my last career highlight: DJing at Burning Man 2022 and having my first all expenses paid trip to DJ at a private party in Marrakech Morocco three weeks ago.
What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I love listening to music.
I collect and spin vinyl records. (Here’s a bonus goodie for fellow alums!)
I read non-fiction books on nature or science.,
I make collage artworks out of National Geographic magazines.
Oh! But I also have friends! So, I also socialize! Did I mention I'm also a dog dad!?
What activities are you involved in outside of your career?
As mentioned above I deeply enjoy playing music, so other than my acting career, I also actively DJ around Athens and internationally, as well as hold exhibitions with my collage of artworks!
What are you most proud of—not only professionally, but personally as well?
I'm proud that I can say I'm living a life doing things that I want to do.
With the grace of God, I am doing fine, and things are only growing more and more it seems like.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell myself to listen to my mother.
What advice would you share with fellow St. Catherine’s alumni?
Break the cycle. Go into uncomfortable spaces and places. Look at things with compassion. See that we are all capable of being our actualised versions of selves.
"To thine own self be true".
