1. What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self, or to today’s St. Catherine’s students?
Approach life with confidence, ambition and work hard, but never at the expense of curiosity, balance or enjoyment. Some of the most rewarding opportunities come from saying yes, stepping outside your comfort zone, and allowing your interests to evolve alongside your career.

2. If you could relive one moment from your time at St. Catherine’s, what would it be and why?
I would relive the moments when teachers actively encouraged me to push beyond what I thought was possible. Their belief in me was incredibly empowering and played a significant role in shaping my confidence and willingness to pursue a demanding and competitive career.

3. What is your fondest memory from your school days at St. Catherine’s?
My fondest memories centre on the strong sense of community: supportive friendships, inspiring teaching, and an environment that valued both academic excellence and individuality. It was a place where ambition was nurtured rather than limited.

4. Have any friendships from St. Catherine’s continued to play a meaningful role in your life?
Yes, many friendships formed at St. Catherine’s have lasted well beyond school and remain deeply important. These relationships have provided perspective, grounding and encouragement throughout the intensity of medical and surgical training.

5. What was the most important lesson you learned during your time at St. Catherine’s – academic or otherwise?
That confidence is built through encouragement, resilience and consistent effort. Being supported while challenged taught me to aim high, accept setbacks as part of growth, and continue striving for improvement.

6. How did your experience at St. Catherine’s and the IB programme prepare you for life beyond school?
The IB programme developed strong analytical thinking, organisation and communication skills, all of which are essential in medicine, surgery and research. St. Catherine’s also instilled independence, discipline and balance, preparing me well for leadership roles and a demanding professional environment.

7. What path did you take after graduating, and what are you doing now?
After St. Catherine’s, I studied medicine at Imperial College London and then practised as a Doctor, undertaking the Specialised Orthopaedics Foundation Programme in London. I am currently working in London as a Core Surgical Trainee, having ranked in the top 8% nationally in the fields of Plastic and Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. My role has included hands-on operative experience as a primary surgeon — such as caesarean sections, tendon and nerve repairs, and carpal tunnel surgery — alongside music, research, teaching, leadership roles and part-time work in medical aesthetics.

8. What has surprised you most about where life has taken you since leaving St. Catherine’s?

I have been most surprised by how possible it has been to pursue a number of interests alongside a demanding surgical career. Throughout the years, I continue to be involved in research, leadership, education, medical aesthetics and music, while maintaining an active social life. Continuing to play the cello during surgical training, including regular rehearsals and performances, has shown me that it is possible to sustain high-level creative pursuits with organisation and support, and that these interests can complement clinical work rather than detract from it.

9. What personal or professional accomplishments are you most proud of since graduating?

I am proud to have progressed through a highly competitive surgical training pathway while also taking on leadership and medical education roles. In addition, supporting and mentoring medical students, junior doctors and high school students has been particularly rewarding.

Alongside this, I am especially proud to have maintained a high standard of cello performance throughout medical school and surgical training. I perform regularly with several orchestras, including the London Doctors Orchestra, the European and World Doctors Orchestras, and the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra, balancing rehearsals and concerts with clinical, research and leadership commitments.

At school, I once received a light-hearted award predicting I would be a surgeon playing a musical instrument in theatre, and it has been very satisfying to see both passions continue side by side.

10. Complete the sentence: “Since leaving St. Catherine’s, I have learned that…”
Since leaving St Catherine’s, I have learned that the world truly is your oyster. With hard work, encouragement and balance, it is possible to build a fulfilling surgical career, pursue interests such as aesthetics and music, lead, educate others, and inspire the next generation. I am always happy for students or trainees to reach out to me for advice or guidance!
