| Alumni Spotlight |
As St. Catherine’s British School marks 70 years of excellence, the spirit of our close-knit community continues to extend far beyond the classroom walls. Across the globe, our alumni carry forward the lessons, friendships, and values formed right here on campus.
In this special Spotlight, we catch up with an alumna who transitioned from the familiar halls of St. Cats to the fast-paced life of New York City, balancing her studies in Political Science and History at Barnard with her roles as Chief of Staff and Business Development Manager at a private beauty and wellness atelier.
The Lessons That Shaped the Journey
Reflecting on her school days, she recalls that learning at St. Cats extended well beyond the curriculum. While she didn't always view herself as the strongest academic student, the school instilled values that proved far more lasting.
"St Catherine's taught me that there's much more to learning than grades," she reflects. "It taught me the importance of connecting with people, understanding different perspectives, and being comfortable with who I am. I've carried those lessons with me far beyond school."
When it came time to step out into higher education, the International Baccalaureate diploma programme provided the discipline necessary to thrive. Handling heavy workloads and managing time under pressure became second nature, setting a solid foundation for university life and helping her develop as a strong writer and communicator.
For today’s students or anyone standing at the edge of graduation, her advice is grounded and reassuring:
"Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, be confident in who you are, and don't worry about having everything figured out. Some of the best opportunities come when you least expect them."
Lifelong Friendships & Unforgettable Memories
Despite living in a city she had only ever seen in movies, her roots at St. Catherine's remain as strong as ever. One of her closest friends since Year 1 is currently studying alongside her at Columbia, while another is completing her degree at IE in Spain.
"Even with the friends I don't speak to as much while at uni, or only see once a year, there's still such a special bond," she shares. "There's something about growing up together that stays with you, no matter how much time passes or where life takes you."
When asked about her fondest memories, it isn't just the milestone events that stand out, but the everyday warmth of campus life - and the simple joy of community. She fondly recalls childhood talent shows that brought students and teachers together in laughter, as well as the everyday routine: seeing friends in the corridors, chatting with teachers, and being surrounded by people she grew up with.
"There was such a special sense of community at St Cats. It really did feel like a family, and I don't think you fully appreciate that until you leave."
Balancing Ambition and Life in Manhattan
Life in New York has brought surprising and rewarding milestones, from interning at the United Nations to building her career alongside her degree. Yet, when asked about her proudest achievements, she highlights the balance she has cultivated amidst a busy schedule - making time for music, film, relationships, and friendships.
"Making time to enjoy life is just as important as working hard, and is an accomplishment in itself," she notes. "Since graduating, I have learned that being true to yourself can take you a long way, and that the people and places you grow up with stay with you more than you realise. St Cats will always hold a very special place in my heart."
