Alumni Achievements: Katerina Tasiopoulou '14

Alumna Katerina has been an inspiration for women in IT!

Katerina Tasiopoulou, class of 2014, graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Royal Holloway University of London in 2017, since then she has grown in the IT world.

Katerina began programming at a young age; by 14 she was leading capture the flag (CTF) teams to break her classmates’ websites. In university, she recognized two key information security issues: A shortage of experienced professionals and a lack of equilibrium — while technology has been rapidly changing, there’s no parallel growth in security, leaving both devices and users vulnerable.

At the started of her career as a a penetration tester and SOC Analyst, where she helped build a new SIEM for the company using the ELK Stack. She has worked on mitigating attack vectors on new wireless airplane components, using advanced cryptographic techniques.

At IBM, Katerina was initially an Incident Response Engineer for IBM Resilient. Katerina worked as an incident response consultant in X-Force IRIS, primarily focusing on proactive services. As part of this team, IRIS responds to security incidents globally and helps organisations contain and recover from cyber attacks. She has now moved to business development in Europe and is currently undergoing a Leadership MBA.

Katerina  has won the BCS Young IT Professional of the Year Award 2018, Rising Star Award for Technology 2019 and FDM Rising Star Award 2020. Such an inspiration!

Katerina is now a Business Development Manager at Hack The Box.

All the best Katerina!
