Entering our Fab Lab; opening creative new horizons!
Entering our Fab Lab; opening creative new horizons!

Located in the Upper School campus for our whole school to enjoy, our brand new Fab Lab is a state-of-the-art home for student exploration and invention that enables students to redefine possibilities in programming and design. The Fab Lab is our technologies workshop in which STEM students learn by experimenting, using digital fabrication machinery and designing resources to fully design, prototype, and test products for their innovative projects and resources. From 3D printers, laser cutters, and key programming tools to virtual reality devices, these tools are used to create the ideas of bight minds that participate in the courses with the main goal to turn students into creators instead of consumers!

Our passion is to empower our youth with 21st century work skills and our mission is to improve the learning experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) teaching. This makerspace creates a gateway  to tomorrow for the students and teachers of today, with a programme of project-based learning alternatives and a constructionism methodology that upgrades and maximises student engagement; by using digital fabrication, students learn about cornerstone modern-day machinery and robotics.

Thanks to the support of our very kind donor, who supports our motto of bringing technology to the forefront of education, we are now able to adopt cutting-edge technology in our School.  The gift has made a real difference and helped us establish the laboratory to a level to empower the current and future makers of St Catherine's. Philanthropy fuels dreams, not needs.  We appeciate that thank you!

Our Design Technology faculty, which has attended numerous training courses during the past months, works collaboratively to assess students' needs and plan ahead for the Fab Lab makerspace and connect digital design and fabrication to STEAM; we always stay alert and connected to ensure student success, excellence and happiness throughout the learning path. The Fab Lab is there to support visual and kinesthetic learning styles and to nurture collaboration and problem-solving skills inside a hub for innovation and a place to play, to create, to learn, to mentor and to invent! And to take it a step further, we all dream about future social impact and change supported by our Fab Lab by imagining students creating at the 3D printers a prosthetic hand or a heart that will allow somebody to live life to the fullest.  We look forward to sharing the lab with our young pupils from Lower School in the very near future.

Watch this space as we share our projects and lessons with you! Thank you to everyone who supported our goal for striving for innovation in education........

"I love being here...in the workshops we are doing, I am experiencing technology that I've only ever heard about on the news before. This technology is headed in the future!"
P., Year 7

Designed to spark imagination and creativity, our makespace introduces students to fundamental skill-building projects during which they have the freedom to develop an innovator’s mindset and the competence to build whatever they can dream. We are excited and thankful to our supporters for providing our students with access to modern means for invention. In the Fab Lab theory becomes practice and the concept of 'learning by doing' an ultimate reality.
