The St. Catherine’s MUN team recently joined over 3,000 delegates from around the world at the prestigious 57th annual The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference. This year’s theme, The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Humanity, provided a thought-provoking backdrop for rigorous debate, negotiation, and diplomacy.

Representing the delegation of Rwanda in six committees, the eight-member St. Catherine’s delegation collaborated with peers from around the world to address some of humanity’s most pressing concerns. Among them, Aspasia G. (Year 12) took on the prestigious role of co-chair in a General Assembly committee, facilitating productive and diplomatic debate. Arian M. (Year 12) was selected as a judge for the International Criminal Court, deliberating on ethically complex cases. Additionally, most of our Year 10 students actively participated in discussions and even became main submitters of resolution papers. We could not be prouder of their achievements.

Participation in THIMUN is not just an annual highlight but a testament to the high standards and dedication of St. Catherine’s Model United Nations (MUN) programme. Through their involvement in this world-renowned event, students refine essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and international diplomacy.

Building on the momentum of THIMUN, St. Catherine’s is making the final preparations for its own upcoming MUN conference—an event that welcomes students of all ages to engage in meaningful debates, challenge perspectives, and collaborate to develop effective solutions to pressing global issues. Beyond honing research, diplomacy, and public speaking skills, students learn the art of negotiation and leadership. Representing diverse nations, they must advocate for policies that may not align with their personal beliefs—an exercise in perspective-taking and resilience.

This year’s St. Catherine's MUN Conference is set to be the largest in the school’s history, welcoming 600 participants from 30 schools, including three international institutions. This remarkable growth, achieved in just three years, underscores St. Catherine’s commitment to fostering a globally-minded and empowered student body.

With its longstanding tradition in MUN and an ever-growing platform for student leadership, St. Catherine’s continues to cultivate the next generation of changemakers, prepared to shape the world through diplomacy, debate, and collaboration.
