School News

This March, the Futures Department at St. Catherine’s British School delivered a dynamic programme of events designed to inspire students and deepen their understanding of future career pathways. Through a combination of expert-led panels, hands-on workshops, and global university engagement, students were encouraged to move beyond initial curiosity towards more informed and confident decision-making about their futures.

Careers Shaping the Future of the Planet - Tuesday 17 March

A highlight of the month was the Green Careers Panel, held in the St Catherine’s British School Theatre and attended by students in Years 8–10. Focused on environment, sustainability, and conservation, the panel explored how a wide range of professions collectively address global environmental challenges.

Students heard from experts across diverse sectors, including climate policy, green business, environmental engineering, and wildlife conservation. Speakers included:

  • Théophile Humann-Guilleminot - Senior Campaign Manager, Methane Pollution Prevention, CATF

  • Anastasia Dollari – Environmental and Sustainability Manager, Titan Cement Company SA

  • Evrydiki (D) Fekka – Environmental Sustainability Leader / Environmental Engineer

  • Arsinoi Psaroudaki – Zoo & Wildlife Veterinarian, Attica Zoological Park

Facilitated by the Principal Jon Perriss, the discussion emphasised a key message: sustainability is not a single career path, but an interconnected ecosystem of roles spanning science, policy, business, and communication. Students gained a broader perspective on how their interests and skills could contribute to shaping a more sustainable future.

Industry Insights Workshop: Exploring Engineering - Tuesday 17 March

Also on Tuesday, students participated in an Industry Insights Workshop delivered by INVESTIN, focusing on engineering through a practical and engaging lens.

This optional session provided Years 8–10 students with hands-on experience, challenging them to design and build their own bridges in the Upper School Library. Through this activity, students developed problem-solving skills while gaining insight into real-world engineering principles.

The workshop highlighted the importance of experiential learning, enabling students to explore career pathways in a tangible and engaging way.

SRT International University Fair: From Curiosity to Clarity - Wednesday 19 March

The week culminated in the SRT International University Fair, hosted at St. Catherine’s and attended by students in Years 10–12. The Upper School Foyer was filled with energy as students engaged directly with representatives from universities and specialist institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia.

This event played a pivotal role in helping students transition from exploration to informed decision-making. By speaking directly with admissions professionals, students were able to move beyond brochures and online research, gaining authentic insights into academic programmes, campus culture, and student life.

Events such as this empower students to ask meaningful questions, refine their aspirations, and better understand the pathways available to them.

A Holistic Approach to Future Readiness

Together, these events reflect St. Catherine’s commitment to preparing students not only academically, but also for the complex and evolving world beyond school. By connecting students with industry professionals, universities, and real-world experiences, the Futures Department continues to foster informed, curious, and future-ready individuals.
