Year 13 students have been doing us proud in terms of offers, in what is turning out once again to be an immensely competitive year worldwide as a result of the disruption caused by COVID-19, compounded by the effects of Brexit.
71% of our Year 13 students made applications to the UK and have been receiving their offers including from UCL for degrees ranging from Medical Innovation and Enterprise, to Sociology, to Information Management for Business, to Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance, to Pharmacy; from Imperial for Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Durham for Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, Law and Chemistry; as well as an offer from LSE for Language, Culture, and Society, as well as several offers for Law from many prestigious institutions, the latest of which has been King’s College London last week.
A new trend is that almost half of those UK applicants have also applied to countries outside of the UK, in particular reflecting the increasingly noticeable trend towards European universities. This has led so far to two offers from Humanitas Medical school in Italy and three from the University of Nicosia Medical School in Cyprus, as well as an early offer from Erasmus Business School in the Netherlands. Additionally, 31% of applicants chose North America as a possible destination, and acceptances have so far come from Northwestern, Georgetown, Cornell, Brown, Tufts, Northeastern, NYU, George Washington, Babson College, Boston University, UC San Diego, Skidmore, Uni of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Suffolk University, Boston College, FIT, University of Toronto and McGill University.
Continuing with our yearly cycle of university representative visits, over the past few months we have hosted visits from Boston University, Northeastern, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Bocconi, George Washington, University of Toronto, University for the Creative Arts, UAL, Warwick, Lancaster @ Leipzig, Aarhus @ Denmark; all of which have provided valuable insight into their respective application processes. Next up will be NYU on May 5th. St Catherine’s will also be co-hosting the Aegean University Fair on May 4th, focusing on North American and European options, and Year 12 will take part in the Unifrog Fair on May 17th, allowing for further opportunities for pupils to explore multiple options worldwide. May 18th will bring together students and our alumni for a virtual informal Careers event for students to learn about professions, universities and industries. Last year saw the first event with 50 alumni speaking to students from Year 11-13.
