Reach out and Stop Bullying!

School News

Anti-bullying week is a very important event in our calendar, even though its messages are a focus throughout the year, not just during Odd Socks Day and Anti-Bullying Week. This year’s theme is ‘’Reaching Out’’; many KS3 and 4 lessons this week focusing on this. English, Drama and PSHCE pupils in particular created some excellent work with important messages, much of which is displayed in our school’s foyer. This week’s interactive Assembly was also about Anti-Bullying and ‘’Reaching Out’’, arguing that we must not ignore any bullying incidents and not be outsiders or bystanders to such events. We must reach out!

Our GCSE Yr. 10 Drama group devised, wrote and directed performances on the theme ‘’Anti-Bullying: Reaching Out’’, which they performed to a whole KS 3 audience. For the next two weeks they will create a coursework-like portfolio about the process. This helped them prepare for their real Component 1 GCSE Exam, which will take place later on in the course. Their performances were very creative, effective and powerful and they were extremely brave to perform their creations to about 350 audience members. Huge congratulations!

The English department helped KS 3 students create various types of powerful Anti-Bullying texts, on the theme of ‘’Reaching Out’’ which have been displayed in our school’s foyer, for all of us to read be inspired by and take action by reaching out!

Everyone is different and unique. Everyone looks different, has different beliefs and backgrounds, different experiences and feelings, different ways of understanding the world and communicating with others, different ways of thinking and behaving. These differences make us unique and our world amazing!Thank you for celebrating being different and unique by participating on Monday’s Odd Sock Day.

Congratulations and well done for all your Anti-Bullying contributions and ideas!
