This March, on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th, the St. Catherine’s British School Theatre will come alive with the vibrant energy, humour and timeless music of the musical Hello, Dolly!, performed by the talented students of the St. Catherine’s Musical Theatre Club.
Hello, Dolly! is a joyous musical comedy about Dolly Gallagher Levi, a spirited matchmaker who stirs up romance, chaos, and second chances in turn-of-the-century New York. With wit, warmth, and unforgettable songs, the show celebrates love and living life out loud.
Under the direction of Ms Margarita Souvleri, Teacher of Music, the production continues a growing tradition of musical theatre at St. Catherine’s, where students experience the performing arts as a true artistic process. Musical theatre brings together singing, acting, choreography, music, stage design and technical craft, and through this process students learn the dedication, teamwork and discipline required to bring a full theatrical production to life.
Director Margarita Souvleri shares with us:
“The Musical Theatre Club was founded in 2019 at St. Catherine’s Upper School with a small group of students from my singing classes as part of the after-school music program.
Over the years, we have staged several productions and even remained active during the pandemic with the filmed musical project Mary Poppins ''Step in Time''.
This year’s production of Hello, Dolly! represents another exciting step in that journey. The musical’s vibrant energy, humour, and timeless songs offer students the opportunity to explore character, storytelling, and ensemble performance at a high level. As the club continues to grow, each production welcomes more students who are eager to discover the unique world of musical theatre.”
Behind the scenes, the production is supported by a dedicated creative team.
Months of preparation, creativity and collaboration have gone into bringing this production to life. What the audience will see on stage is the result of countless hours of rehearsal and teamwork from students and professionals alike - a celebration of musical theatre and the vibrant creative spirit of the St. Catherine’s community.
