St. Catherine’s community spirit was out in full force once again at this year’s Athens Authentic Marathon, where our students, staff, and families made a remarkable impact—both on the course and behind the scenes.
A Record Year for CAS Volunteerism
Our longstanding tradition of volunteering at the marathon reached new heights, with almost 80 members of the St. Cats community supporting the event. Over 70 IB CAS students, accompanied by 10 staff chaperones, dedicated their day to assisting runners at the historic Panathenaic Stadium. From distributing drinks, snacks, and blankets to cheering exhausted athletes across the finish line, their energy and teamwork stood out more than ever.
Organisers praised our students for their professionalism, positivity, and commitment. In a particularly touching moment, a few of our most enthusiastic volunteers were invited to briefly wear the prestigious 42 km marathon medal, a symbolic gesture recognising the spirit of service they brought to the day.
Another special moment came when CAS volunteer Alex K. welcomed his mother, Ms Sandis, Head of Admissions, across the finish line - an unforgettable illustration of determination, encouragement, and community coming together.
Celebrating Our St. Cats Runners
But the day was not only about giving back. It was also a celebration of our own St. Catherine’s athletes who took part in the 1.2 km Kids’ Marathon and the OPAP 10K Run. Whether young runners were experiencing their first race or pushing toward personal bests, their determination embodied the values of endurance, unity, and the Greek heritage that inspires this iconic event.
We are exceptionally proud of all our runners, and we extend special congratulations to the following students for their outstanding achievements:
A Day of Excellence, Service and School Pride
From the volunteers cheering in the stadium to the students racing through the streets of Athens, St. Catherine’s made its mark. The day captured the very best of our community; Creativity, Activity, Service, athletic spirit, and the deep sense of connection that defines our community.
Well done to everyone who contributed to this memorable event. You made our school proud.
