Career Exploration in Action! That simple phrase captures exactly what our Year 12 Internship Programme is all about.
As we have explored previously, St. Catherine’s intentionally builds career - from the initial spark of our Year 10 company visits to Year 11 Day on the Job experiences. But it is our Year 12 students who have just completed the most immersive tier of the curriculum: the flagship week-long internship programme that started it all.
As the pinnacle of this multi-year journey, each stage of the St. Catherine’s Career Exploration programme has been carefully designed to build upon the previous one, gradually developing students' confidence and understanding of the world beyond school. By the time they reach Year 12, students are ready not simply to observe the workplace, but to actively engage with it.
This year, 45 students were hosted by 17 organisations for a week that took them beyond the classroom. They experienced the pace and expectations of professional life, worked alongside experienced teams, and observed decision-making in action.
For many, it was the first time they had to adapt, communicate under pressure and figure things out in real time, and that is exactly the value of the experience. Spending a week inside a career teaches things no classroom can: whether the pace suits them, whether the reality matches the idea they had in mind, and what it feels like to be trusted with real responsibility. Along the way, students strengthened the skills employers consistently look for: clear communication, collaboration, initiative and adaptability. That is the real purpose of this programme. It is not about arriving with all the answers, but about showing up with curiosity and learning through experience.
As another year of the Career Exploration Programme comes to a close, we are proud of how our students showed up: their curiosity, their professionalism, and their willingness to step into something unfamiliar. It reflects exactly what we hope to nurture at St. Catherine's.
None of this would be possible without our host organisations. A heartfelt thank you to DEON Institute, Eurobank, Euroclinic, Goody's Everest, Halcyon Equity Partners, Hellas Direct, Neurosoft, Papapolitis Law Firm, Prolepsis Institute, TITAN and the many other organisations that generously partnered with us this year. By opening your doors and sharing your expertise, you helped bring Career Exploration in Action to life, and the impact on our students will last well beyond this week.
