With summer term now in full swing, many families naturally begin to wonder what the next year will have in store for their children—especially when it comes to class placements and friendships. While change can feel uncertain, it also offers a powerful opportunity for growth. At our school, we approach the creation of new class groups with care and purpose, knowing that these fresh beginnings help build resilience, broaden social circles, and develop the adaptability and empathy children need to thrive—both now and in the future.
As we prepare for the new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise the importance and benefits of mixing pupils in classes. This approach plays a crucial role in fostering resilience, adaptability, and social confidence by encouraging children to build new friendships and collaborate with a diverse range of peers.
By thoughtfully structuring class groups, we create a balanced and dynamic learning environment where students can support and challenge one another, reinforcing teamwork and a strong sense of community. This practice also helps develop essential life skills such as cooperation, communication, and inclusivity—preparing students not only for school but for life beyond the classroom.
We recognise that change can sometimes be difficult, and we greatly appreciate your support in helping your child approach this transition with a positive mindset. You can assist them by encouraging openness to new experiences, speaking positively about the opportunities ahead, and reassuring them that existing friendships can continue outside of the classroom. Arranging playdates or activities with both new and familiar classmates can also ease the adjustment.
As a school, we take great care to balance individual needs with the overall well-being of the group. Once class lists are finalised, changes are extremely difficult, as we carefully consider academic and social factors, including gender balance and friendship dynamics. Last year, despite a few concerns, all students settled in quickly, and we are confident that this year will be no different. We kindly ask that you trust our professional judgment and the thoughtful planning that goes into this process.
